White Hart

The White Hart is a popular Loughborough pub that combines a quirky design and character with the warmth of a traditional pub. The brand extension needed to encompass these dual aspects, and work well both in the actual pub and on the White Hart website.

Using illustration to extend the White Hart brand

As well as extending the brand and creating a menu design to reflect the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, owner Ben Maunder gave us free rein to come up with large wall mural depicting the history of pubs from Roman times to today. It now holds pride of place behind the bar, entertaining and educating visitors, and if you’re observant you’ll also find smaller scenes from the mural featured on their beer mats.

A few changes were made to their existing logo to ensure the tone remained consistent. Within the brand extension, we got to create our first font. Having been impressed with the owner Ben’s artistic letterforms, we couldn’t help ourselves to create a handwritten typeface based on his scrawl!

Web design and development

With an ever-changing lineup of local beers, themed events and music nights, the White Hart is a lively venue! a dozen eggs created a website that was straightforward for viewers, but flexible enough to cope with regular information updates.  Extending the lighthearted branding onto the site, we set up a range of small graphics that resemble hanging pub signs.  These break down the information into manageable chunks, and are easy to swap out when an update is needed.

The site which is part of Benjamin Pimlico’s Pub company – the parent company – web presence has been designed to expand with any additions to the chain.

At the bottom of the site you can see a scrolling version of our Story of the Pub mural. It’s a firm favourite!
